Hopefully you all saw my post two weeks ago about the new Lifestyle Session that I've added to my package list! Just a day after posting that I got an email from Shari asking me to shoot her daughter's 1st birthday party- perfect, my first "official" Lifestyle Session (although I did a few others last year for clients that asked). I love one-year-olds. It is SUCH a great age (ok, maybe I am a bit biased because I have my own incredible one-year-old who amazes me every day, but still...). They are becoming so playful and curious, trying with all their might to communicate, and don't care at all yet about sharing (or not sharing!)- which makes them pretty easy. Really, they're just FUN! So, of course, I was very excited to have a chance to shoot in a room full of these happy tots! Shari did such a beautiful job putting it all together- it was a Sweet Shop theme, and no detail went unnoticed. The candy bar was amazing and it was fun to watch the older kids dig in, filling their candy bags to the top and then stuffing a few pieces in their pockets....just in case. ;) The garage housed a face painter, jumpy house, and space for the kids to sing and dance while the grown-ups enjoyed a beautiful breakfast spread in the kitchen. And did I mention the birthday girl?!? She was a little cutie with the most striking eyes. She was happy all morning as friends and family took turns holding, hugging, and loving on her. My favorite part of the session was watching the birthday girl take down her slice of cake. She started off with all of the manners of an elegant woman at a cocktail party, politely nibbling on a strawberry, then dabbing at the frosting. She did this for quite a while. So long, in fact, that I figured she didn't really like the cake. I turned my back momentarily to grab a few shots of the other kids at the table, and when I turned back to the birthday girl, she was suddenly elbow deep in her cake- atta girl! Then came the smiles and the squeals as she devoured the rest of the slice. And then...the plate on the floor and the hands to her hair (I know that toddler move all too well!). Off to the bath for the birthday girl! Enjoy!
